On behalf of the WSNIA board I wanted to thank those that have signed up to attend our annual training summit coming up in April of 2026. We are excited about this year’s cadre of instructors and networking events we have planned for our attendees.
We have extended our deadline for our annual awards for Narcotics Detective of the Year, Narcotics Unit/ Team of the Year, Narcotics Canine/ Handler of the Year, and Narcotics Prosecutor of the Year. Please consider a nomination and submit those to cforeman@wsnia.org by March 15th, 2026.
WSNIA board members to include Dave Hayes, Rich Wiley and I just returned from attending the National Narcotics Officers Association Coalition in Washington DC. WSNIA members went up on Capital HIll and met with numerous Congressional Representatives. We discussed with them our concern for Byrne Jag Grant funding being diverted away from multi jurisdictional drug task forces and the need to narrow the focus of the original intent of the of the grant back to funding these task forces around our state and around the nation as other states have also started diverted these funds to other programs as well. This message was a major concern shared from narcotics association board members from all across the country to their state congressional representatives. We are optimistic that this unified message was heard and there appears to be continued strong bipartisan support for Federal funding for drug law enforcement in our state.
During the Conference we heard from DEA Administrator Terrance Cole, a recent appointee from the Trump Administration. DEA Cole confirmed that Mexican Drug Cartels have started to infiltrate Canada and partner with organized crime groups to set up drug labs for producing methamphetamine and fentanyl in Canada and these drugs are destined to head South through Washington, Idaho and Montana through our Northern border. DEA is working in conjunction with RCMP and there have been super labs identified and taken down already in Canada. We feel like this is a major drug trend that our members need to be aware of and be prepared for with the Southern border being locked down.
Cornhole Sign Ups for our annual Jeremy Brown Memorial Corn Hole Tournament will be available online and also during the Vendor’s Show so find a partner and start practicing!
We look forward to seeing you all soon.
Chris Foreman
WSNIA President
